Eye examinations and sight testing in Berkhamsted
At David Paul Opticians we are proud to offer an excellent eye examination service. With the benefit of the latest in sight test technology, we are able to provide glaucoma testing, digital retinal imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography following our investment in the Topcon 3D OCT 2000 system
We offer so much more than the standard NHS sight test. There are many different tests that can be included in an eye examination, but our optometrist will tailor your eye examination to suit your individual needs.
Our standard eye examination includes a number of tests above those required by the NHS. Our extended eye examination includes fundus photography and our advanced eye examination includes a 3D OCT scan and report in addition to the tests performed in our extended eye examination.
Regular eye examinations are essential for clear, comfortable vision. They are an important health check too; our optometrist checks the health of your eyes and can find early indications of eye conditions such as glaucoma, as well as detecting other medical conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
At the end of the eye examination, we will discuss our findings with you and advise whether you need glasses, contact lenses or a new prescription. Our trained staff will recommend the lens options available and help you choose your new glasses.
VDU screening
If you use a computer at work, your employer may be required to pay for a regular eye examination. In addition, if you require spectacles solely for use with a computer/VDU, your employer may also have to pay for a pair of spectacles.
We provide VDU screening suitable for employers and employees tailor made to accommodate any size of company. Please inquire for an individual quote.
The Autorefractor
Our optometrist will often use the autorefractor that takes an electronic measurement of your eyes and provides an approximate prescription at the start of the eye examination.
The Phoropter
We have invested in the latest computerized testing equipment and provided it is practicable we will use a Topcon automated phoropter, which is an instrument that is placed in front of your eyes and enables the optometrist to measure the refractive error and determine the prescription, rather than use the old style trial frame and lenses that many patients found extremely uncomfortable.
Computerised test chart
We have now installed a Topcon computerised test chart that is an extremely versatile alternative to the conventional back-illuminated charts and projectors.
Visual field screener
Our optometrist may decide to carry out a visual field examination using our Medmont Field Screener. We also carry out DVLA field screening.
Digital retinal photography
A sophisticated process that uses a digital camera to take a picture of the back of your eye and allows our optometrist to monitor the health of your eyes.
OCT Scan
With our recent addition of the Topcon 3D OCT we are now able to offer an Advanced Eye Examination. The OCT allows us to scan the retina and detect any early signs of conditions like macular degeneration, macular holes and glaucoma.
Glaucoma Screening
We use a non-contact tonometer to measure the pressure inside each eye.
